Do NOT plant or allow Yellow Flag Iris (Iris pseudocorus) to grow on your property. It is a highly invasive plant that can form extremely large dense stands and is capable of filling entire water bodies. It has been identified along the shore of Delmonte Lake and the District is attempting to address it. This plant is sold online and at nurseries. However, it is illegal to transport, transfer or introduce this plant in the State of Wisconsin.
If you see this plant anywhere other than the south shore of Delmonte Lake please report it to the District immediately by using the Contact Us link at honeylakedistrict.org or by sending an email to honeylakesecretary@aol.com. If you have this plant on your property please remove it by digging out the entire plant, including the undergrount/underwater rhizome, and cutting off the flowers before seed heads are formed. This plant will spread by both seed and underground through its roots/rhizome. Place the entire plant in sealed garbage bags labeled “Invasive Plants – approved by DNR for landfilling” and place in the trash. Do NOT put these plants in your compost. Use caution when handling these plants as they can cause skin irritation, and the roots and leaves are poisonous. Thank you.
